"Germany is the main trade partners of Uzbekistan in the European Union"

Tashkent hosted the second meeting of the Uzbek-German Business Council.

As previously reported, this structure was established in March 2015. Its founders were more than 50 leading German companies and banks. The first meeting of the Council was held on February 25 of this year in Berlin.

The event was attended by heads and representatives of ministries, departments and companies of Uzbekistan, as well as Germany's leading corporations, banking and financial institutions, such as CLAAS, Deutsche Kabel, Knauf, MAN, Lemken, Siemens, Commerzbank and others.

They discussed prospects for bilateral practical cooperation in various sectors of the economy.

During the presentations it was noted that the Business Council is an important and effective platform for advancement and strengthening long-term and multi-faceted economic relations between the two countries.

Germany is the main trade partner of Uzbekistan in the European Union. Therefore, the country prioritized the growth in the number of successful projects by attracting advanced "know-how" and modern technologies of German companies.

Over the past 15 years the German investments worth more than 800 mln. US dollars were attached to economy of the republic. In addition, financial and technical assistance totaled about 330 million Euro was provided for the implementation of socio-economic projects in Uzbekistan. Last year, bilateral trade increased by 16% and amounted to about 685 million US dollars, and for the first 9 months of this year - exceeded 400 million US dollars.

Today 111 enterprises with participation of German investments are operating in our country, including 28 companies with 100% foreign capital. 38 representatives of German companies were accredited in the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan.

During the event, the presentations on economic and investment potential of Uzbekistan, the state privatization program, project proposals in the field of agricultural machinery, light industry and pharmaceutical industry, building materials were held. It was noted that domestic enterprises are ready to organize deliveries to the German market a wide range of high-quality and competitive products, including textiles, chemical products, fresh and processed fruits and vegetables and much more.

In his speech, member of the board of CLAAS Jan Hendrik Mohr emphasized the huge potential of trade-economic, investment and technological cooperation between the two countries. He noted that the arrival of the representative delegation of business circles of Germany to Uzbekistan is a proof of the increasing practical interest and aspirations of the German side to the active expansion of mutually beneficial partnership with our republic.

Speaking about the upcoming Tashkent International Investment Forum, Jan Hendrik Mohr said that the German delegation is looking forward to the start of the event. He said that the forum will identify important projects and will establish long-term contacts between the business circles of the two countries.
