President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Turns 60

The President of Uzbekistan was born on July 24, 1957 in Zomin district of Jizzakh region to a doctor’s family. In 1981 he graduated from the Tashkent Institute of Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture, having received the specialty of Mechanical Engineer. He is Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor.

He started working in 1981 in the Tashkent Institute of Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture, as a junior researcher, senior lecturer, Associate Professor, pro-rector for academic work.

In 1990 he was elected to the Supreme Council of the Republic, he was the chairman of the Credentials Committee.

In 1992, he was appointed a head of Mirzo-Ulughbek district of Tashkent. In 1996-2001 he worked as a head of Jizzakh region, in 2001-2003 - head of Samarqand region. He made a great contribution to the social and economic development of the above-named district and regions.
Working in the executive authorities, simultaneously in 1995-2003 as parliamentarian of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan he actively and fruitfully participated in the development and adoption of important legislative documents aimed at the political and socio-economic development of the country and the implementation of democratic reforms.

In 2003, Shavkat Mirziyoyev was appointed as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Oliy Majlis approved his candidacy to this position three more times - in 2005, 2010, 2015.

As Prime Minister, Shavkat Mirziyoyev demonstrated his great potential and outstanding organizational skills in implementing large-scale socio-economic reforms, modernizing and upgrading the country, implementing large and unique projects, developing and securing the priority of private property, drastically increasing the share of small business and private entrepreneurship in the economy and further strengthening their legal protection.

He paid special attention to the development of the economy on an industrial basis, to the increase of the country’s export potential, to the radical reform of the agrarian sector, primarily to the broad development of the farmer movement, the deep processing of agricultural products, ensuring the food security of the republic, and ensuring the provision of consumer goods at affordable prices.

In order to radically improve the living and working conditions of the population, Mirziyoyev adopted effective measures for large-scale construction and improvement in all regions of the country, improving the quality of public services, and the integrated development of cities and regions of the republic, especially remote rural areas.

In his work Shavkat Mirziyoyev along with the social and economic direction got focused on the development of the spheres of education, science and healthcare in accordance with modern requirements, creation of the necessary conditions for the formation of a healthy and comprehensively advanced young generation, strengthening the protection of motherhood and childhood.

He paid much attention to the further enhancement of the authority of the unique institution of self-government - mahallas (communities) and other public organizations, to the consistent strengthening of their influence in society on the basis of broad involvement in the process of democratic reforms, and the preservation and enhancement of national spiritual values.

At the same time, during the implementation of economic and social tasks, he directly supervised the work to strengthen all-round mutually beneficial cooperation with foreign countries and international institutions, as well as international financial institutions and concluding important agreements that meet national interests and serve the economic development of the country.

On September 8, 2016, on the basis of a joint resolution of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, adopted at a joint session of the Chambers of the Parliament, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan was temporarily entrusted with the fulfillment of the duties and powers of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The 8th Congress of the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP), held in Tashkent on October 19, decided to nominate Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a member of the political council of the party, as a presidential candidate. Following the results of the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held on December 4, 2016, he was elected the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, having collected 88.61 percent of the vote. He officially took office on December 14, 2016.

For many years of fruitful work in the government, a huge contribution to the development of the country, improving the welfare of the people, Shavkat Mirziyoyev was awarded the orders of Mehnat Shuhrati and Fidokorona Hizmatlari Uchun.
