Uzbekistan: Angren-Pop Railway Line to Launch in March 2016

“The Uzbekistan Railway Company plans before the end of March 2016 to launch a new electrified railway line Angren-Pop,” said the Company representative.

“The railway line Angren-Pop is expected to commission by Navruz. Today it is a major task the company is facing. The commissioning of this line actually scheduled until September, but the company is trying to launch it for the spring holiday.”

According to him, after commissioning freight transportation will initially ply on the road yet with a gradual introduction of passenger trains. After the road reaches Andijan, there will be able to link Kyrgyzstan and other neighboring countries on the convenient railway net.
With the commissioning of the new line not only the Ferghana Valley will be connected to the central part of the country, but also the formation completed of a unified railway transport system in Uzbekistan. In addition, this line will be an important link in the international transit corridor China - Central Asia - Europe.

The length of the new road, the construction of which began in mid 2013, is 123.1 km. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it passes through the Kamchik Mountain Pass with height of more than 2.2 thousand meters. China Railway Tunnel Group is currently completing the construction of 19-kilometer tunnel cost over $ 455 million.
